I contacted the ATT customer service number and they confirmed that 1-800-947-5096 is their collections department, but when i first called the number, i got a comercial about somthing compleatly different, so i'm letting my wife handle it.
According to the CSR at AT&T, their collections department sometimes dials incorrect numbers due to automation, and this issue has been resolved
Everyone else's experience with Cingular wireless service seems to mirror my own, involving a lengthy and frustrating process.
Obviously, the Cingular billing system is confusing, they give us until the 5th of the following month before it is late, but they expect payment around the 25th, I usualy pay it arond the 3rd or so and I have never been late, it's annoying that they call all my phones.
I've also received multiple calls from this number. Even after returning their call and informing them I'm not an AT&T customer, they continued calling. Upon checking, they found no outstanding accounts under my name, which I've had for seven years. Interestingly, when I called back, the operator requested my SSN, which I refused to provide, and then inquired about my satisfaction with T-Mobile. This seems like a potential tactic to circumvent the Do Not Call list.
Due to my normal billing date coinciding with my salary, recieved the freindly reminder to pay my bill multiple times over the past 2.5 years, partly becaus of procratination.
Evidently, this is a scam. People claiming it is not a scam are likly in on it. Since they can obtain your phone number and leave a voice mail, they can probaly make fake posts on the internet.

I beleave this is a call from AT&T, as they usualy contact me when my bill is due, and I find them helpfull, they even gave me an extention to pay my bill without the $36.00 fee, untill my next pay day.

I received an automated call from this number claiming to be from AT&T/Cingular, stating that I needed to pay my bill and provide credit card information, but fortunately, I was aware it was a scam since my landline is not with AT&T and my cell phone bill is on autopay.
On April 26th, recived a call from this number in the eary morning, didnt relize it was Cingular untill later, glad i now know
