Be cautious with unsolicited messages like this—protecting young family members starts with immediate action. Block the number right away to stop further contact, and report it to your phone carrier and authorities if it persists. Teach kids not to engage with unknown senders, and consider privacy apps that filter spam. This sounds like a predatory attempt to build false trust; alerting police was smart, as it escalates the matter appropriately. Monitor for patterns, and if needed, change numbers or use call screening tools for added security.
A youngster got bombarded with texts saying “your mum gave me your number, I need to ring you.” I called back, told the caller the police were on it—what an idiot, lol.
