Repeatedly, callers using 888‑335‑7976 claim to represent Xcel Energy, often mentioning overdue bills or urgent account issues. Most reports describe a recorded message, a name that doesn’t match the recipient, and a request to call back on the same 888 line. The pattern fits a classic utility impersonation scam rather than a legitimate outage notice. If you receive such a call, hang up, avoid sharing personal or payment data, and independently verify the claim by dialing the official Xcel customer‑service number (found on your bill or the company website). Consider blocking the number, reporting it to the FTC or your state’s consumer protection agency, and enabling any call‑filtering tools your carrier offers.
