Received a prerecorded alert from 614-283-1914 urging me to contact Discover Card Fraud Prevention at 1-800-347-4996. I'm in Canada and never applied for a Discover Card. Later, a live caller from 1-800-391-9462 mentioned the same department, so I disconnected right away.

Yesterday afternoon, a wave of reports mentions the 1‑800‑347‑4996 line tied to Discover’s fraud alerts. Most callers describe it as a legitimate security number used by Discover’s fraud‑prevention department, though a few suspect phishing or scam activity. Because the number appears on official Discover communications and on the back of cards, treating it as a verification channel is generally safe—provided you initiate the call yourself or verify the caller ID. Never share full Social Security numbers or PINs over a unsolicited call, and always cross‑check with the official Discover website or card‑issued hotline before confirming any transaction.
